Formika was established in 1978 on the initiative of Jerzy Przywuski as a local family business.
Over the following decades, it grew rapidly, adapting its business profile to changing market needs and growing technological requirements. After the founder's death in 2006, his daughter Joanna Dębicka and her husband Piotr Dębicki took over the leadership of the company, continuing the mission of building a modern, responsible enterprise. Thanks to their vision and consistent investment in development, Formika is one of the leading packaging manufacturers in Poland and a recognised brand on the international stage.
The establishment of Formika (Latin for “ant”) and the commencement of production of plastic automotive components in difficult economic conditions, which were not conducive to private initiative. The founder, originator and creator of the company is Jerzy Przywuski, an economist with passion and vision.

Change in the company's business profile and entry into the packaging and food markets. Formika is the first company in Poland to start manufacturing plastic packaging for the food industry. These are mainly yoghurt, cheese and cream cups, etc., made using pressure and injection moulding, and then printed using dry offset. In a very short time, the company gains the trust of many customers.
Just five years after launching its plastic packaging production, Formika becomes the market leader in Poland and begins to attract foreign investors.
All machines and know-how are sold to the Austrian Greiner Group, which opens a new production plant in Teresin near Warsaw, operating for a year under the name Greiner – Formika. Jerzy Przywuski, together with his then partner Wojciech Zasadziński, participate in the entire process of launching the plant and hiring and training people.
Formika and Greiner split up (Wojciech Zasadziński stays at Greiner, while Jerzy Przywuski keeps growing Formika). Formika, with 100% Polish capital, begins a new business – the production of aluminium lids for the food industry using the FLEXO UV method – until then, no one in the country had used this technology, only traditional solvent flexo, which was characterised by much lower print quality than UV technology. Formika installed the first sectional machine for flexo UV printing in this part of Europe.
Under the leadership of Jerzy Przywuski, Formika is developing very dynamically and there is a need to expand the machine park with another flexo UV printer.
Sudden and early death of the founder of the company Jerzy Przywuski. He’ll live on in the memory of his employees and co-operators as a cheerful, energetic person, their authority, a professional and a visionary. Everyone who had an opportunity to work with him stresses that he was an extraordinary person, who was ahead of his times. After his death, the company stayed a 100 % family business and is now managed by Przywuski’s daughter and her husband.
The company undergoes many IT modernisation works (e.g. introduction of a fully integrated ERP system); new presses are purchased.
Due to very rapid and dynamic development of the company, the location in Raszyn turns out to be too small. Therefore, Formika buys land in Parzniew near Warsaw and launches the construction of a new plant.
After 9 months of construction, the new production plant in Parzniew is opened. It is one of the Europe’s most modern factories dedicated to manufacturing packaging for food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. The production plant area is nearly 6000 sqm and it includes the Central and Eastern Europe’s only D class clean room (ISO 8), in which aluminum packagings for medicines are manufactured. The new plant has production capacity of about 100,000,000 MB. However, as early as during investment planning, it was designed so that it could be easily expanded
In March 2019, we completed the construction of our second production plant. Both the production and office space have been doubled. After the expansion, the combined plants have an area of 11,502 m², of which production accounts for almost 6,000 m², warehouses 3,000 m², and offices 1,200 m². Despite being connected, the plants are completely separate from each other in terms of fire protection and installations.
The new production spaces house one of the world's most modern printing machines, an 11-section machine with screen printing and cold stamping, as well as the world's first and only machine for the production of tubes, offering, among other things, invisible decoseam joining as standard
Sustainable development
Formika establishes a sustainable development department within its R&D division and begins research into new packaging materials and products that support the circular economy, reducing environmental impact and supporting the achievement of ESG goals.
Change in Formika's management: Joanna and Piotr Dębiccy join the Supervisory Board. In 2024, after 17 years of managing Formika, the time came for a change. We made the decision to move to the Supervisory Board – a step that had been carefully planned well in advance. The primary goal of this transition was to hand over the operational management of the company to an experienced leadership team.
"This shift allows us to fully focus on strategic development, exploring new acquisition opportunities, and further growing other companies within our portfolio. It is a significant milestone for us – one that enables a broader perspective on Formika’s future and empowers us to define directions that will ensure the company’s continued dynamic growth" - Joanna and Piotr Dębiccy
Piotr Dębicki was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by Polish President Andrzej Duda for his outstanding contributions to the development of the printing industry and the national economy, as well as for his social activism.
